SCENE Art Blocks is making waves in the art world. The platform recently announced that it has hit a major milestone. Now, most of its projects can be accessed and viewed directly on the Ethereum blockchain.

Since launching in 2020, all Art Blocks projects have been created on Ethereum. But before this change, you needed a back-end generator from the company to see the artwork online.

Now, about 90% of all Art Blocks pieces are fully on-chain. This means that as long as the Ethereum blockchain is up and running, you can view these artworks anytime. It doesn't matter if Art Blocks is still around or not.

The pieces that are now purely on-chain were mainly created using two popular programming tools: p5js and threejs. The remaining 10% still need help from third parties to be viewed, using different tools.

In a blog post celebrating Art Blocks’ fourth anniversary, founder Erick Calderon called this achievement a “major leap forward.”

He said, “You’re no longer dependent on Art Blocks or any other platform. These works represent a fundamental shift in how art can be created, collected, and preserved.”

Art Blocks will still use a centralized generator for visualizing its pieces online. However, the company believes that making these works fully accessible on-chain is crucial for its long-term mission. They aim to create infrastructure for “a new chapter in art history.”
