A cryptocurrency trader is facing a tough situation after he accidentally sent $25 million to the wrong blockchain address. Now, he’s offering a reward of $2.5 million to anyone who can help him recover those funds.

The trader, who goes by the name qklpj.eth, shared his feelings of desperation. He told DL News, “I wish someone can find a bug,” hoping for a flaw in the smart contract that would allow him to access his money. He emphasized that the funds are his personal assets, not tied to any company.

This incident happened on a Sunday. The trader mistakenly transferred the large sum to a restricted holding account, called a safe module, instead of his main wallet, where he could access his funds. Since blockchain transactions can’t be reversed and there’s no middleman to fix mistakes, the money is now stuck unless someone finds a solution.

On social media platform X, he reached out to skilled hackers and white hat experts, saying, “To all skilled hackers and white hats out there: I’ve lost a significant sum of funds in a contract and urgently need help recovering it.” He even offered a 10% reward, which is about $2.5 million based on current market prices. As of Monday evening, he told DL News that no one had come up with a solution yet.

One possible way to recover the funds involves the DeFi protocol Renzo. They could potentially modify their smart contract code. While many Ethereum smart contracts can’t be changed, Renzo’s contract is designed to allow updates. This means a fix could be possible. However, the trader mentioned that compliance issues prevent them from helping directly.

In the past, courts have stepped in to help in similar cases. For example, a UK court ordered the crypto company Oasis to retrieve funds stolen during a $322 million attack on the Wormhole protocol. Part of the stolen assets had been deposited into the DeFi lending platform Maker.

The trader stated, “I haven’t considered the legal process,” highlighting his good relationship with the Renzo team and his desire to avoid legal action. As of now, Renzo has not responded to DL News’ request for comment.
