MetaMask has just released its extension v12.6, and it comes with some exciting new features.

One major addition is the Gas Station feature. This means you can now swap tokens without needing ETH to pay for gas fees.

To use this feature, you’ll need to enable Smart Transactions with MetaMask Swaps. This makes transactions easier and faster by including network fees right in the quotes you see. Plus, you won't be limited to just one source for liquidity. MetaMask pulls data from many providers, like decentralized exchange aggregators and market makers, to ensure you get the best prices with low fees.

Right now, the Gas Station feature is available on the Ethereum mainnet through the MetaMask Extension. There are plans to roll it out on mobile devices soon. Just remember, the swap value needs to cover the gas costs and include supported assets like USDT, USDC, DAI, ETH, wETH, wBTC, wstETH, and wSOL.

Another cool update is the Chain Permission controls. This allows you to sign transactions on any approved network without manually switching networks. It gives you more control over your account and network permissions.

When you connect to a decentralized application (dApp), your account and all default networks automatically get permission for that dApp. You can change these permissions either during the initial connection or later in the All Permissions section. If you manage your own setup, like home stakers, you can also review and adjust your RPC URLs as needed.

These updates not only make MetaMask easier to use but also strengthen its security. By allowing you to limit dApp permissions, it reduces potential security risks while keeping your experience smooth.
