Metaplanet, often called "Asia's MicroStrategy," has an exciting plan. They aim to boost their Bitcoin holdings to 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026. By the end of 2025, they want to reach 10,000 BTC. This move positions them as a top corporate Bitcoin holder.
In a recent announcement, the Director of Bitcoin Strategy at Metaplanet shared some key insights. He stated that Bitcoin Yield is the core of their strategy and how they measure success. They don’t look at performance in traditional currencies like yen or dollars. Instead, they focus on Bitcoin itself. He put it simply: "Bitcoin is not just an asset; it's the exit strategy. We're here to accumulate and lead, not sell."
To fund this ambitious growth, Metaplanet plans to launch Asia's largest equity capital raise for Bitcoin. They’re looking to issue 21 million shares, aiming to raise $746 million. Their goal is to achieve a 35% Bitcoin Yield each quarter in 2025.
This strategy comes as Japan faces increasing government debt, ongoing negative real interest rates, and a weakening yen. In the fourth quarter of 2024, Metaplanet reported an impressive 309.82% Bitcoin Yield, a big jump from 41.7% in the third quarter. Currently, they hold 1,761 BTC, with unrealized gains valued around $173 million. Since adopting the Bitcoin standard in April 2024, their market capitalization has skyrocketed by 7,000%!
On January 27, Michael Saylor announced MicroStrategy's recent acquisition of 10,107 BTC. This brings their total holdings to 471,107 BTC.
