TapSwap, a popular tap-to-earn game on Telegram, is gearing up to launch its TAPS token on The Open Network (TON). The launch is set for the second half of January 2025.
The developers say that TAPS will be a key resource in the TapSwap ecosystem. It will give holders access to tournaments, staking rewards, and governance participation. But here’s the catch: whether you get the TAPS airdrop depends on how engaged you are in the game. Basically, the more you play and interact, the better your chances. To receive the airdrop, users will need to connect their wallets.
What started as a simple tap-to-earn game has evolved significantly. In August, TapSwap introduced a city builder mode called “Tappy Town.” Achievements in this mode will also impact your chances of receiving the TAPS airdrop.
Along with the airdrop, TapSwap is transitioning to a skill-based platform. They are moving away from traditional pay-to-win models. A representative mentioned that this shift will offer players competitive tournaments.
Since launching in February, TapSwap has attracted over 50 million users worldwide. That’s impressive!
This year, Telegram gaming and participation on The Open Network have really taken off. Popular mini-apps and games like Hamster Kombat and Notcoin have led the charge. Notcoin, in particular, distributed over 80 billion tokens to more than 35 million players earlier this year. It even secured listings on Binance and OKX.
The Open Network is a layer-1 network created by Nikolai and Pavel Durov, the co-founders of Telegram. Initially, development started internally. However, due to regulatory scrutiny, the company paused the project in 2020. Since then, a community of external developers has continued to build the ecosystem.
As for Toncoin (TON), its native token, it has seen nearly a 200% increase in the past year. This rise has pushed its market cap to over $16 billion, making it the 16th largest cryptocurrency by market cap, as reported by CoinGecko.
In other news, Gunzilla Games, the studio behind the popular crypto battle royale shooter Off the Grid, has teamed up with Delphi Ventures. They aim to create the GUNZ Foundation, a non-profit that will oversee the upcoming GUN token and the GUNZ mainnet launch. Off the Grid entered public early access in October and has received rave reviews from players, with many clips showcasing its unique gameplay.
Neon Machine, the studio behind the Avalanche-based extraction shooter Shrapnel, has also made headlines. They recently announced leadership changes, including a new CEO, as they prepare for the game’s free-to-play launch in 2025. Ken Rosman, a seasoned veteran of the video game industry, has taken the helm. He previously worked at Microsoft’s Xbox division.
Lastly, The Sandbox has announced the winners of its 2024 Awards. These awards celebrate creativity, innovation, and collaboration within the community. The Sandbox is enhancing its awards program, aiming to elevate the recognition of the best experiences on the platform.
